Visual identity for a prominent UX bootcamp

CHALLENGE

Designlab, a leading product design bootcamp, needed a stronger, more cohesive visual identity to enhance both internal and external branding efforts. Their existing visuals lacked consistency across channels, making it difficult to establish a recognizable brand presence. As the company expanded its marketing initiatives, ranging from social media and digital advertising to webinars and newsletters, there was a growing need for a scalable visual system that felt both professional and engaging.

SOLUTION

To address this, I developed a refined visual system that was design-first, inclusive, and aligned with Designlab’s mission to empower aspiring designers. I introduced a more cohesive illustration style, optimized color palettes, and refined typography to create a unified look and feel. By ensuring brand consistency across various digital and print touchpoints, I helped Designlab establish a stronger identity that resonated with students, mentors, and prospective learners alike.

APPROACH

  • Developed a cohesive illustration style and refined typography, color palettes, and iconography to create a unified brand presence.

  • Designed marketing assets weekly, ensuring visuals aligned with Designlab’s mission and engaged its audience.

  • Collaborated with marketing and content teams to adapt visuals for various channels while maintaining consistency.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITES

As Graphic Designer & Illustrator, I was responsible for creating weekly marketing visuals for Designlab’s blog, social media, email campaigns, webinars, and digital ads.

I collaborated closely with marketing and content teams to ensure visuals were both engaging and strategically aligned with business goals. Through this work, I played a key role in enhancing Designlab’s brand presence and driving higher engagement across platforms.

Illustrating a cohesive brand

Illustrating a cohesive brand

VISUAL SYSTEMS & STORYTELLING

Designlab, a popular product design bootcamp, needed to establish a concrete visual identity for both internal and external branding initiatives. In my role as Graphic Designer & Illustrator, I was tasked with creating images on a weekly basis for marketing collateral, to be showcased on the company’s social channels, blog, email, webinars, newsletters, digital advertising, and other internal and external communications and events.

I set out to craft an evolved visual system that was design-first, inclusive, and represented the core mission of the business.

This work was especially meaningful to me as a former Designlab student myself - I had firsthand experience navigating the program and understood the needs and aspirations of its community.

This involved developing a cohesive illustration style that balanced approachability with professionalism, ensuring that visuals resonated with both aspiring designers and industry professionals. I explored a mix of bold, modern graphics and expressive, human-centered illustrations to reflect the brand’s commitment to education and creativity. By refining typography, color palettes, and iconography, I helped create a more unified and recognizable brand presence across all digital and print touchpoints, strengthening Designlab’s identity as a leader in design education.

REPRESENTING THE COMMUNITY

Stylistically, I organized graphic components and elements to establish a recognizable and cohesive visual system, representative of UX/UI/Product design careers and their respective nuances.

Key to designing an illustrative system for this effort was to understand the design space and its users. Designlab has a very active community, comprised of students and alumni - design professionals all around the globe.

The following are selected works from hundreds of illustrations/assets produced.

IMPACT

The refreshed visual system strengthened Designlab’s brand consistency and boosted engagement across digital platforms. My illustrations and graphics drove higher interaction on social media, improved email click-through rates, and fostered a stronger sense of community among students and mentors. Additionally, the ads I produced increased conversions, attracting more prospective students to Designlab’s courses. By aligning the visual identity with the company’s mission, my work reinforced its reputation as a leading design bootcamp, making its educational content more inviting and accessible globally.

INSIGHTS GAINED

Working on this project deepened my understanding of how visual storytelling can shape brand perception and user engagement. I learned the importance of designing with empathy - considering not just aesthetics, but also how imagery can support and inspire learners in their design journey. Additionally, collaborating with marketing and content teams taught me how to adapt visuals to different channels while maintaining brand cohesion. This experience further strengthened my ability to create scalable, impactful visual systems that resonate with diverse audiences.
